The Announcer: fixed star Murzim
Talking chatterboxes, journalism, prophecy, canceling and French politics
Murzim is the second brightest star of Canis Major constellation, the Great Dog. It is currently projected at 7° Cancer in the tropical zodiac.
Canis Major hosts the brightest fixed star in the sky, Sirius. Murzim’s name derives from Arabic (مرزم), meaning the Herald, the Announcer; it rises before Sirius, effectively announcing it.
Good dog, mad dog
One thing about Manilius is that he delineates for constellations, not for individual stars. As such, when reading about the Great Dog, you’re reading his takes for the constellation as a whole and not just Sirius. And oh boy, does Manilius have Things to say about Canis Major!
